Amherst Dog Training
Every other community on the Westside drives to Amherst for dog training. You just have to drive across town. Our full-service training facility sits at 1425 Cooper Foster Park Rd – minutes from downtown’s sandstone storefronts, the Beaver Creek trails, and every neighborhood in between. For Amherst families, nationally acclaimed dog training isn’t a destination. It’s a neighbor.
From this home base, our certified dog trainers deliver 1:1 obedience and behavior training, daycare training, flexible boarding and training programs, puppy training, and group classes for dogs of every age, breed, and backstory – serving Amherst first and the whole Cleveland Westside service area beyond it. Call 440-698-5011 for more information.
The Hometown Advantage
Distance quietly kills more training plans than any stubborn dog ever has – the long drive gets skipped, the follow-up gets postponed, the group class gets dropped. Living minutes from the facility removes every excuse:
- Follow-ups that actually happen – post-graduation sessions and group classes are easy to keep when they’re around the corner.
- Faster starts – locals can often schedule evaluations and program starts quickly, without building a whole logistics plan first.
- Training where your dog will live it – the streets, parks, and distractions we proof against are the same ones outside your door.
- Day train that actually fits your day – drop-off and pick-up add minutes to your routine, not an hour.
Built on Bedrock, Like the Town Itself
Amherst built its name on sandstone – quarried patiently, cut precisely, and stacked to last a century. Good dog training works the same way. We don’t decorate over problems with tricks and treat-bribery; we quarry down to the foundation: your dog’s attention. Once a dog has truly learned that focusing on its handler is the most rewarding choice in any situation, every command – sit, place, heel, come – stacks solidly on top. That’s why our graduates hold up under distraction years later: the foundation was cut right the first time.
Five Programs, Zero Commute Excuses

1:1 Obedience & Behavior Training
Hometown perk: weekly lessons are easy to keep when the facility is minutes away.
Private lessons give you a dedicated trainer, a plan built around your goals, and handler coaching that turns every session’s progress into your progress.

Puppy Training
Hometown perk: start foundations the same week you bring your puppy home – no waiting, no long hauls with a carsick pup.
Socialization, structure, confidence, and household manners installed during the months that matter most. The adult dog your puppy becomes is being decided right now.

Daycare Training (Day Train)
Hometown perk: the drop-off is on your way to work if you commute along OH-2, OH-58, or the Turnpike.
Our day train program pairs your dog with a trainer for the day and hands you back a better dog every evening – the most convenient serious training an Amherst schedule can buy.

Flexible Boarding & Training Programs
Hometown perk: your dog boards in its own hometown, and the graduation handoff is minutes from your driveway.
Board and train immerses your dog with our team for one, two, or three weeks – the fastest path through big goals, finished with thorough owner coaching and local follow-up support.

Group Classes
Hometown perk: the easiest habit to keep on the Westside – most Amherst families can be here in under ten minutes.
Group classes proof your dog’s obedience around other dogs and handlers and keep graduates sharp for years. Proximity makes Amherst dogs our most consistent class attendees – and it shows.
The Hard Cases Come Here Anyway – Yours Can Too
Families drive from across the region to bring us reactive and aggressive dogs; Amherst families just get here faster. Our dog behavior training division runs dedicated reactive behavior training and aggressive behavior training programs for the lungers, the guarders, the growlers, and the dogs other trainers have declined. It starts with an honest, free evaluation – no judgment, no sugarcoating.

Amherst Dog Training FAQs
Is your training facility actually located in Amherst?
What are your hours, and when can I drop off for day train?
We’re open Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm, closed Sundays. Day train drop-off and pick-up times are coordinated within those hours – we’ll set your exact routine when you enroll so it meshes with your workday.
Does board and train happen at this same Amherst location?
Yes. Board and train dogs live and learn with our team as part of daily life at the facility, and because you’re local, the end-of-program handoff and follow-up sessions are especially easy to schedule.
My dog gets anxious at drop-offs. How do you handle that?
Gently and deliberately. We keep arrivals calm and structured, give nervous dogs time to acclimate before asking for work, and build confidence through easy early wins. Most anxious dogs settle into the routine within the first few visits – and drop-offs themselves become a training exercise.
What vaccinations does my dog need before training?
Standard, up-to-date vaccinations are required for programs at the facility. We’ll confirm the current requirements and any paperwork when you schedule your evaluation, so there are no surprises on day one.
Which Amherst parks are best for practicing between sessions?
The Amherst Beaver Creek Reservation is excellent – real trails, wildlife smells. Maude Neiding Park works well for early-stage practice, and the sandstone downtown along Park Avenue is perfect for calm leash work past shops and foot traffic.
Do you only train Amherst dogs, or do families come from farther out?
Both. Amherst is home base, and families drive in from across the Cleveland Westside – Lorain, Elyria, Avon, Vermilion, Oberlin, the lakeshore suburbs, and beyond. Locals just get the shortest commute to the same nationally recognized training.
Can we combine programs – say, board and train followed by group classes?
Absolutely, and it’s often the strongest recipe: an immersive program to build the skills. Your trainer will recommend the right sequence at your evaluation.
How much does training cost?
Pricing depends on the program and your dog’s needs, so we don’t quote blind. At your free evaluation you’ll get a specific recommendation with exact pricing and a realistic timeline – and no pressure to decide on the spot.
What’s the first step for an Amherst family ready to start?
Call 440-698-5011 or send the quick online form to schedule your free evaluation. You’re minutes away – some families call in the morning and meet their trainer the same week.
